Why We Heat With Infrared (And Why You'll Never Go Back)

At Eight Limbs Yoga, we heat the room with infrared panels, not blasting vents. We chose that on purpose. We want a hot room that feels like a warm afternoon in the sun, not like standing behind a bus.
Here's the difference. Forced air heats the air, then blows it around the room. Infrared heats you directly, along with the floor and walls, the same way sunlight warms your skin on a cool day. That means a warm floor under your mat, fresher air, and heat that soaks into your muscles instead of hitting you in the face. We also add no humidity, so the room feels like a warm, dry day, not a steam room, and mold and mildew don't get a damp place to settle in. Translation: no musty hot yoga smell.
So how does it feel? Warm, steady, and easy to breathe. Your body loosens up faster, so you settle into poses sooner and move with more ease. And because infrared warms whatever it reaches, you feel more heat the closer you are to the panels. Want it spicy? Set up near a heater. Want it cooler? Grab a spot farther away. Either way, you'll sweat.
Forced air has a few habits we don't miss. It dries out your eyes and throat and pushes dust and allergens around the room. Infrared skips all of that.
Infrared also fits every class we teach. Power Flow gets a warm, strong room that keeps you moving. Deep Stretch gets gentle heat that helps tight hips and hamstrings let go. And when you want a break from the heat, our unheated Yin classes are waiting.
Come feel it for yourself.
